Industrial Chic

While I like to tease Will that he likes anything shiny {i.e. steel, aluminum} I too have a love of anything industrial. Every object is straight forward and suits its purpose. Over the last few years I have seen some really great re-spouting of typically utilitarian objects. Yumi Janairo Roth's collections Paleta::Pallet and proded, tugged, pushed, pulled are phenominal. Both are recreations of the typical utilitarian objects of pallets and furniture dollies rendered in luxurious materials of walnut, mother of pearl inlay, rattan caning, and steel castors. For 2009 she created another set of pallets, Cargo Cult, this time collecting them off the streets of New York and inlaying mother of pearl only to redeposit them on the street. Lastly the Cast Metal Milk Crate which I have spied in Urban Outfitters is a great reinvention of its plastic version for longer durability {although I think it is no longer available online, check local stores}.
