You are Missed

It has been two weeks since we lost Duke {Ellington not Blue Devil}.  So please bare with me while I get this out of my system.   I am not exactly sure when "good boy" morphed into "good Boudreaux"... somewhere along the way Will and I started calling him Boudreaux...I guess to us it just meant "my buddy".  I miss him everyday and all the sweet obnoxiousness that goes with owning a Lab...his tail could clear a coffee table in one sweep...he could bounce around like a lowrider with hydraulics...he thought he was a lap dog though he was only about 20 pounds lighter than me.

Without Duke we would not have met the best friends anyone could ask for in Charleston and in turn Will's first godchild....from our friend Rob Savoy {I added Rob's words to a picture of Duke in his favorite fountain}:

We have so many people to thank from our last months with Duke...we received lots of encouragement and support from our family and friends.

Boudreaux, We hope that you are playing relentlessly at the beach in the sky!

"Burning the Bowery"

Now this is a great pre-game anthem...

......and so what if I am pre-gaming for BINGO {oh, I feel all my 30 years and then some!}

Illuminating Alfresco

We only have a few more weeks days of deet-free dining down here and what better way than to light with LEDs before you have to break out the citronella?  I love the modernist shapes of the Halley lamp.  The simple arch recalls the iconic Arco lamp and suggests an intimate surrounding.

Gardenias in the Morning

Such a sweet smell.  Fresh crop in our yard...I wonder if our neighbors think I am crazy as I am outside in my robe harvesting a few each morning.  Gotta get them while they last... such a short bloom.

Creating Your Own Industry

I am an avid fan of every Tom Dixon design.   His latest collection Industry advocates that one can "design, produce, and sell things yourself in very efficient ways these days".   Premiering at Salone del Mobile 2010 and also featured this month at ICFF he created his own "flash factory" to promote the idea  to produce locally and with your own means.

Metropolis Mag also interviewed Dixon during ICFF 2010 with a quick shot of the "Flash Factory"

Re-inventing the Wheel

Re-inventing the wheel...third wheel.........my wheels are turning........spinning wheel.......in search of a hamster wheel.......steering wheel......pop a wheelie.......wheel of chance......so many wheel sayings, I could hardly decide on a title.  More from the Art Car Parade this weekend.

Creative Drive

This weekend was Houston's Annual Art Car gathering of the minds...filling the city with so much creativity and love.  Annually we make a pilgrimage from our house to several bars in the Heights for frozen mimosas and beers, then cruise over to the parade route for chatting with artists, and lastly pedal to the metal back to our house for crawfish and more beverages.

Empty vessels make the most noise

I love Tapio Wirkkala’s Bolle Vessels and this look inside the artisan process has heightened my respect for the nearly half century old design of these beautiful vessels.

Aardvark Manifesto

Despite the fact that we ran fifty feet of HDMI cable under the house yesterday this is my new manifesto.  I plan on keeping myself quite busy this summer and not zonking out in front of the television.
